Introduction

Congratulations on purchasing the KAVAN Electric screwdriver. This RC power tool is intended for tightening and loosening the screws simply, quickly and accurately.

Safety warnings

  • Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations and specifications provided with this power tool. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury and property damage.
  • Keep work area clean and well lit.
  • Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust.
  • Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool.
  • Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions.

General power tool use and care

  • Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application.
  • Hold the power tool by gripping surfaces; never touch the rotating parts!
  • Before you start the power tool, be sure the screwdriver bit is properly held by the chuck.
  • Hold the power tool securely. When tightening and loosening screws be prepared for temporarily high torque reactions.
  • The power tool is not designed for use on electric devices under power; always be sure any electric device you intend to work on has been switched off and unplugged from the mains outlet.
  • Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
  • Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool.
  • Maintain power tools and accessories. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use.
  • Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean and free from oil and grease.
  • Recharge only with the USB charging cable supplied with the tool using the specified power supply.
  • When the power tool is not in use, keep it away from small metal objects, like paper clips, keys, nails, screws etc. that can make a connection from one terminal to another of the USB port.
  • Do not expose to extreme temperatures: fire, heat, direct sunlight on hot days or freezing.
  • Under extreme usage or temperature conditions, battery leakage might occur. If on skin: flush with soap and plenty of water. If in the eyes, flush with plenty of clean water and seek medical attention.
  • Do not use a battery-powered tool that is damaged or modified.
  • Do not charge a battery-powered tool using a damaged charging cable.
  • Do not disassemble the power tool; the battery removal/replacement may be performed by trained personnel only.

Operating the power tool

Charging

Note: The battery is supplied partially charged. To ensure the maximum performance of the battery, charge it before first use.
  1. Charge the power tool only with the USB cable provided.
  2. Connect the USB cable to a suitable USB power supply (5 V, min. 0.5 A).
  3. Charging: the indicator LED glows red. Charging finished: the indicator LED glows green. During the charging process, the handle of the power tool might become warm. This is normal.
  4. Once fully charged, unplug the USB cable from the power tool and power supply.
  5. The power tool cannot be used during the charging process; if the power tool does not respond during the charging process, it is not a failure.

Inserting / removing the screwdriver bit

  • Pull the mantlet of the hex chuck away from the power tool body, insert the bit stem and release the mantlet to engage the bit.
  • Pull the mantlet of the hex chuck away from the power tool body and remove the bit.

Clockwise rotation (tighten the screw)

  1. Press and hold the "▼" arrow button; the LED work light goes on.
  2. Tighten the screw as with a regular hand tool screwdriver.

Counter clockwise rotation (loosen the screw)

  1. Loosen the screw as with a regular hand tool screwdriver.
  2. Press and hold the "▲" arrow button to remove the screw; the LED work light goes on.

Protection against deep discharge

The lithium-ion battery is protected against deep discharge by the electronic cell protection. When the battery is discharged, the power tool is switched off by means of a protective circuit; it no longer rotates. However, you should never let it go that far; you should recharge the battery once you realise your power tool is apparently slowing down.

Maintenance and service

  • To ensure safe and efficient operation, always keep the power tool clean.
  • If the power tool is no longer working and/or the battery needs to be replaced, this must be done by KAVAN or by a KAVAN authorised service centre.

Transport

The contained lithium-ion batteries are subject to the Dangerous Goods Legislation requirements. The batteries are suitable for road transport by the user without further restrictions. When shipping by third parties (e.g. by air transport), special requirements on packaging and labelling must be observed.

Recycling and waste disposal note (European Union)

Electrical equipment marked with the crossed-out waste bin symbol must not be discarded in the domestic waste; it should be disposed of via the appropriate specialised disposal system. In the countries of the EU (European Union), electrical devices must not be discarded via the normal domestic waste system (WEEE - Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment, Directive 2012/19/EU). You can take your unwanted equipment to your nearest public collection point or recycling centre, where it will be disposed of in the proper manner at no charge to you. By disposing of your old equipment in a responsible manner, you make an important contribution to the safeguarding of the environment.

The KAVAN Europe s.r.o. products are covered by a guarantee that fulfils the currently valid legal requirements in your country. If you wish to make a claim under guarantee, please contact the retailer from whom you first purchased the equipment. The guarantee does not cover faults which were caused in the following ways: crashes, improper use, incorrect connection, reversed polarity, maintenance work carried out late, incorrectly or not at all, or by unauthorised personnel, use of anything other than genuine KAVAN Europe s.r.o. accessories, modifications or repairs which were not carried out by KAVAN Europe s.r.o. or an authorised KAVAN Europe s.r.o., accidental or deliberate damage, defects caused by normal wear and tear, operation outside the Specification, or in conjunction with equipment made by other manufacturers.
