Caribbean V3

Introduction

The Caribbean V3 is a compact, factory-assembled sailing yacht with a 2-channel proportional radio. Separate servos control the sails and rudder. The model arrives on a display stand with its rig fitted; remove the transport fasteners carefully before use.

Safety notes

Danger

This model is not a toy. Assembly and operation require adult supervision. Never swim after a stranded boat or wade into deep water. Do not enter the water with the transmitter. Arrange a safe recovery method before sailing.

Sail only on still water in suitable light winds. Do not use rivers, streams, strong currents or heavy winds. Keep the boat in sight, away from swimmers and other users. For the first outings, choose a wind direction that will carry a disabled boat back towards your shore.

Main section

Removing the transport fasteners

Box screws, stand screws and the ballast transport cover.
  1. Use a cross-head screwdriver to remove the 3 screws underneath the box. Lift the yacht and display stand out together.
  2. Support the hull with one hand while removing the 2 screws beneath the stand. Remove the plastic ballast cover. The boat can now be lifted off the stand without pulling against the transport fixing.

Installing transmitter batteries

  1. Set POWER to OFF and slide off the rear battery cover.
  2. Fit 4 fresh AA alkaline cells with the marked polarity, then refit the cover.
  3. Put the left sail-control stick at neutral before switching on. Set POWER to ON: the transmitter beeps once and its green indicator flashes.

Opening the hatch and powering the receiver

Decorative table lock, safe hatch removal and receiver batteries.
Attention

Switch on the transmitter before the receiver. Switch off the receiver before the transmitter. The decorative steering wheels on the deck are not handles and can break if used to lift the hatch.

  1. Rotate the decorative table on the hatch left or right to unlock it. Hold the table to lift the rear of the hatch.
  2. Hold both sides of the front of the hatch, lift it slightly and carefully pull it free. Do not strain the rigging.
  3. With the receiver switched off, insert 3 fresh AAA alkaline cells in its holder, observing polarity. Switch on the transmitter, then the receiver battery-box switch.
  4. Successful automatic binding is indicated by a steady red receiver LED, two transmitter beeps and a steady green transmitter LED. Check that both servos respond.
  5. Refit the front of the hatch first, press its rear into place, then rotate the decorative table to lock it. Keep wires clear of the closing edge.

J2C02 and J2C96R bind automatically at power-up; no bind button is required. Keep other nearby transmitters and receivers off during this process.

Checking and adjusting the controls

J2C02 sticks, trim buttons and matching A/B sail positions.
  1. On the stand, move the left sail stick down to A: the main and jib booms pull in. Move it up to B: both booms open out. Use the sail trim buttons to adjust the sail-servo neutral.
  2. Slide the silicone O-rings on the main and jib booms to adjust their opening and closing angles. Check the full control range: sheets must move freely and neither servo should force against a stop.
  3. Move the right stick left and right: the rudder must follow in the corresponding direction. Use the rudder trim buttons to centre it when the stick is released. Repeat the control check before every launch.

Sailing

Points of sail and the example sailing course relative to the wind.

A sailing boat has no throttle to propel it: adjust the rudder and sheets as wind direction, gusts and water movement change. The boat cannot sail directly into the wind. Sail towards an upwind destination by alternating close-hauled courses on opposite tacks.

Course or manoeuvreSail and rudder setting
Beam reachStart with both sails about 45° out and the rudder centred. Adjust for a steady course.
Close-hauledPull both sails in. Hold the rudder near centre once on course; avoid pointing so high that the sails flap.
TackingKeep the sails in and steer the bow through the wind to the other tack. Centre the rudder when the turn is complete.
Bearing away / broad reachTurn away from the wind and ease both sails progressively, keeping them filled rather than flapping.
RunningEase both sails fully and hold the required course with small rudder movements.
Gybing / heading upFor a gybe, steer the stern through the wind and control the sails as they change sides. When heading back towards the wind, pull the sheets in progressively. Left/right rudder commands depend on the boat’s present course.

After sailing

  1. Switch the receiver OFF first, then switch off the transmitter. Disconnect the receiver batteries.
  2. Open the deck hatch and let the interior dry completely. Trapped moisture can corrode and damage the radio equipment. Store the boat supported on its stand with the rig protected from damage.

Like other fine electronics products, do not expose this equipment to high temperatures, low temperatures, moisture, dusty environments, violent mechanical shocks and impacts. Do not leave it in direct sunlight for extended periods of time.

Improper installation includes inadequate mounting, mechanical strain on cables and insufficient cooling.

Please claim warranty repairs from the shop where you purchased the product.

If possible, use the original packaging when returning the product for service. Include a dated description of its use and the fault, together with your full address and telephone number.
